Sending us your Property photos

If your property is located outside of the Brisbane (Queensland, Australia) area, then we require you to send us photographs of your property in lieu of a site visit. In this case, please take a series of low resolution photographs (keep the image file size below 100kb each please) - the more photos you send us the more accurate your Renovation Action Plan will be. Aim for at least 6 -8 overall photos of each area/room inside the house (north, south, west, east direction + flooring and lighting/ceiling) and at least 15-20 of the exterior. Please also ensure that you photograph the cabinetry and appliance/fixture details in the kitchen and bathroom areas too. Take as many photographs as you can! (note: 80-100 photos is not uncommon)

If you are not 100% sure how to get your photographs off your camera, see the guide below for step-by-step instructions.

Step 1) Take your property photos as instructed above (and as outlined in the email you receive when you book your Renovation Action Plan).
Step 2) Now it's time to get your photos off your camera and onto your computer so that you can send them to us. There are a few different ways to transfer your digital photos after you've taken them. We'll walk you through a few options (below) so you can decide which is right for you.
Step 3) Now that you have your photographs off your camera and onto your computer or CD, you need to send them to us. You can email your photos to us, upload them via our website or post them to us on a CD (all instructions below).
Step 4) Once we have received your photographs, we will telephone you to discuss them in detail.

Options for transferring your photos from your camera to your computer:

Using a USB Cable

Your camera most likely came bundled with a USB cable. If not, you can find one at any home electronics store for around $15. If you are buying a new USB cable, take your camera with you to the shop to make sure you buy the right one. Follow these simple steps to connect your camera through a USB cable:
Step 1: As a precaution, make sure your camera is off before connecting
Step 2: Once you've connected the USB cable between your digital camera and computer, switch the camera on
Step 3: In most cases, your camera will immediately show up on your computer when you plug it in (if it doesn't automatically pop up, go to Windows Explorer and click on the drop down menu on the top right hand side).
Step 4: When you have found the icon - which will be called 'removable storage' or the name of your camera - simply double-click to 'open' it
Step 5: You will now see all of your photos on your computer screen. Use your mouse to drag your photos to any folder on your computer (call this folder 'Property Reno' so you can easily identify it again). You could also 'copy' (Ctrl C) and 'paste' (Ctrl V) your photos into your new 'Property Reno' folder.
Note: If your camera doesn't show up on your computer when you plug it in, you will either need to download a compatible programme that your camera supplier offers (usually free and downloadable off the internet) or use another method to send us your photos (ie: transferring the photos from your camera's memory card to a CD and then posting this to us - instructions below).

Using a Dock

When you bought your camera, you may have also got a 'dock' which is a cradle that your camera can sit in to charge. The only difference between a dock and a USB cable is that often a dock will also charge your digital camera while it's connected to your computer. The steps for connecting your camera using a dock are almost identical to a USB cable:
Step 1: As a precaution, make sure your camera is off before connecting.
Step 2: Insert your camera in the dock.
Step 3: Once you've connected the dock to your computer, switch the camera on.
Step 4: In most cases, your camera will immediately show up on your computer when you sit it into the dock (if it doesn't automatically pop up, go to Windows Explorer and click on the drop down menu on the top right hand side). You may even find that it will start to download your photos automatically if this has been set up.
Step 5: If you need to find the icon manually, it will be called 'removable storage' or the name of your camera. Double-click on the camera icon to 'open' it.
Step 6: Now use your mouse to drag your photos to any folder on your computer (call this folder 'Property Reno' so you can easily identify it again).

Using the memory card from your camera

Your digital photos are stored on your camera's memory card. You can transfer your photos directly from your memory card to your computer OR you can go to a photo lab store (eg at Harvey Norman, Kodak Express shops etc...) and they will transfer your photos from your memory card to a CD (which you would post to us).
Memory card to Computer
Step 1: Remove your memory card from your camera and insert it into a card reader slot on the front of your computer. If your computer doesn't have a card reader, you can buy an external model in almost any home electronics store for around $20.
Step 2: Your memory card should appear on your computer hard-drive automatically (go to Windows Explorer and click on the drop down menu on the top right hand side if you don't see it straight away). When you locate it, double click on the icon to 'open' it
Step 3: Now use your mouse to drag your photos to any folder on your computer (call this folder 'Property Reno' so you can easily identify it again). You could also 'copy' (Ctrl C) and 'paste' (Ctrl V) your photos into your new 'Property Reno' folder.
Memory card to disc (via a Photo lab store - eg Harvey Norman, Kodak Express etc...)
You can transfer your photos yourself using the in-store machines or give your memory card to one of the staff members and they transfer your photos onto a CD for you. Either way, this process takes around 20 minutes and usually costs between $12 and $15.
If transferring your photos yourself:
Step 1: Insert your memory card into the card reader on the front of the photograph machine in the shop (or one of the staff will help you).
Step 2: Your photographs will automatically show up on the screen and you will be able to make your selections and transfer your photos to a disc this way.
