Colours for your Renovation

Jane Eyles-Bennett - Monday, February 06, 2012

I often get asked ‘how much will you charge to do my colours’. My answer? Nothing – because I won’t do it. There are so many other factors to consider and I for one find it impossible to ignore the things that I know NEED to change in order for a real transformation to be made possible. Colour is a very important factor, but it is only around 30% of what it takes to modernise and add value to any property.

Let’s have a look at the different elements on the exterior of a house. You can paint some of these things – but what do you do with the rest?

  • Main exterior surfaces (brick, weatherboards fibro etc.)
  • Roof
  • Guttering
  • Gable
  • Bargeboards
  • Fascias
  • Soffits
  • Downpipes
  • Window frames
  • Sills
  • Window hardware
  • Awnings
  • Doors and door frames
  • Door hardware
  • Stair treads
  • Risers
  • Stringers
  • Balcony balustrade
  • handrail
  • Posts, beams etc
  • Garage door/carport
  • Metreboxes
  • Lighting
  • Landscaping
  • Driveway
  • Paths
  • Fences
  • Letterbox
  • Washing line

Oh and you’ve only got $35,000 to spend? How on earth are you going to transform your WHOLE house for that? (Hint: link to Renovation Action Plan page HERE).
